Die to Self

Die to Self

Are you driven by greed for material things? Is your life consumed by the pursuit of material possessions?  Do you realise that you run the risk of losing focus on that which is truly essential for your life – your salvation and an eternal life?  Prioritise Jesus Christ in your life instead of all other material things, take up your cross and follow Jesus.

“24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also],

25  For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting].
26  For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life [his blessed life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his [blessed] life  [in the kingdom of God]?”  Matthew 16:24-26 [Amplified Bible]

“Those who use things of the world should not become attached to them.  For this world as we know it will soon pass away.” 1 Corinthians 7:31 [New Living Translation]

Jesus said: “Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age, and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless.” Mark 4:19 [Amplified Bible]

“23  Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Assuredly I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24  And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through  the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Matthew 19:23-24 [New King James Version] This is not because being rich is a sin but “[F]or the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10 [New King James Version]

————

“19  Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither  moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure us, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 [New King James Version]
Jesus said:
“28  Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 [New King James Version]

Your material needs will be taken care of as you serve Christ with your life.
“5  Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and a craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]
6  So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6 [Amplified Bible]
Do not allow your mind to put your material desires above your salvation. Accept Jesus Christ into your life and take up your cross in serving Christ.
How Do You Receive Christ into Your Life?

If you would like to receive the gift of salvation that God has for you today, make a decision in your own heart that you want to be forgiven of your sins and that you wish to turn your back on a sinful life. Believe in the Kingdom of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ [Mark 1:15]. The Bible says if you confess with your mouth (i.e. actually say it) that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him (Jesus) from the dead, you will receive salvation [Romans 10:9-10]. Salvation is open to any human being who calls upon the name of the Lord [Romans 10:12-13].

If you want to get saved right now:

First silently read the text in the paragraph below and make sure you understand it. It is a confession prayer you can use to get born again this very moment.

If in your heart you agree with the content of the statement below then, read it again, but this time say it with your mouth out loud as you read it:

“Father, I thank You that you sent Your only Son, Jesus Christ, to take my sins and my punishment.  Lord Jesus, I believe that You died for me and that God raised You from the dead.  Today I confess that You are my Lord and my Saviour.  Father, forgive me of all of my sins.  Thank You Father that today, by Your grace, I am born again, in Jesus’ name.  Amen.”
